Project Summary: Des Meloizes
Ownership
MDN Inc. (50%) and SOQUEM Inc. (50%), operator.
Location
Located approximately 5 km to the east of the town of Normétal in northwestern Québec.
Area
The property consists of 109 contiguous mining claims totaling 4413.3 ha.
Geology and Mineralization
The polymetallic Lac Des Méloizes property is located in the Northern Volcanic Zone of the Abitibi Subprovince, within the Normétal volcanic complex. The SE-NW to E-W oriented volcanic sequence is composed from bottom to top of mafic volcanics, alternating mafic and felsic rock dominated by massive to fragmental units, a sedimentary marker horizon and a horizon of fragmental rock intercalated with mafic and felsic flows called the “Mine Sequence”. The host rock of the Normétal mine (historical production of 10.1 MT at 2.15% Cu, 5.12% Zn, 0.56 g/t Au and 45.25 g/t Ag) forms one of the horizons in this sequence. The Mine Sequence also hosts other mineralization such as the Normetmar deposit.
There has been much exploration work in the Mine Sequence and on the Desméloizes property since the discovery of the Normétal deposit in the 1920s. Considering only the SOQUEM work, regional exploration programs were undertaken in the Mine Sequence between 1976 and 1981 and on the present Lac Des Méloizes property between 2005 and 2008 with the completion of geophysical surveys and diamond drill programs.
