Geology & mineralization
The property lies within the Archean Abitibi greenstone belt, in the polymetallic Lebel-sur-Quévillon—Lac Shortt metallogenic belt. This belt is oriented NE-SW, and is characterized by occurrences of syenite, carbonatite and kimberlite suggesting the presence of a major transcrustal structure. The property is underlain by a kilometre-scale quartz-feldspar porphyry which intrudes mafic to felsic volcanosedimentary rock near two regional-scale deformation zones. These rocks are mineralized with lithologically- and structurally-controlled gold and copper.
Several former and currently operating mines occur near the property, including the Bachelor Lake gold mine (0.96 Mt at 5.4 g/t Au), Lac Shortt (2.7 Mt at 4.62 g/t Au) and Coniagas (0.72 Mt at 10.7% Zn, 1.1% Pb and 182 g/t Ag).
