Geology and mineralization

The Mnekezi project is located in the Rwamagaza greenstone belt characterized by mafic volcanics with very minor iron formation.  This belt hosts the Tulawaka and Buckreef mines.

The laterite profile is well preserved, with ferricrete either outcropping or covered by up to a metre of sandy material originating from the erosion of Bukoban sediments. Three types of granite occur at Mnekezi, alkali-rich late-kinematic pink granite to the north of the greenstones, a mafic-rich foliated granodiorite south of the greenstones, and thin lenses of microgranite within the greenstone package.  The greenstones are mostly mafic flows with BIF, felsic rocks and sediments in the western portion of the licence with andesite, basalt and volcaniclastic rocks dominant in the east.

  • Sulphide mineralization within volcaniclastics and iron formation has been observed through RC drilling.
  • Located along the more than 30 km long, NW-SE oriented anomalous gold trend that was defined by conventional soil geochemistry.
