Environment Health and Safety Policy
MDN’s objective is the discovery and development of mineral resources that can be profitably mined. Because ore bodies are relatively rare and occur mostly away from population centers, their exploration and development present various operational challenges. We must ensure that the environmental impact of our work is minimized. We must care for the health and safety of employees under difficult work conditions. We must interact effectively with host communities to ensure that our work does not compromise community values.
MDN is therefore committed to its policy on Environment, Health and Safety (“EHS”) issues and it undertakes to:
Universality
Comply with EHS regulatory requirements in Canada and the countries where it operates and apply it to all activities.
Efficiency
Develop and use EHS practices that are efficient, transparent and measurable. Such practices will be periodically reviewed taking into account technical and economic developments.
Risk
Identify, assess and manage EHS risks.
Training
Provide information and training for the safe transport, use and disposal of materials and equipment.
Incident management
Develop, test and maintain emergency response plans to ensure the protection of the environment, employees and the public.
Contractors
Require contractors to comply with applicable legislation and MDN’s EHS policies.
Communications
Encourage dialogue among employees, stakeholders and the public with respect to EHS issues.
Termination of operations
Reclaim exploration and mining sites in compliance with applicable regulations and site-specific criteria.
